We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Happy White Day!

When I was here a couple of weeks ago:

I saw this:

I thought, "How Cute...but what in the heck is White Day?"

My first guess was something akin to our African American Heritage Month or something...you know...since we are the white minority here...maybe they want to give us our own day of recognition. But then I thought, wouldn't it just be American Day, since we have Americans of all ethnicities here? And why would we be celebrating with cookies and kitties and bears, anyway?

Luckily, Coree came to my rescue, with her Japanese language and culture class experience. It seems in Japan, Valentine's Day is not enough. Valentine's Day is for women to give gifts to their sweethearts, and White Day (March 14th) is for men to give gifts to their sweethearts. Lest I feel left out, I picked myself up this little something from Cliff to me. I knew he'd want me to have it. Happy White Day, honey. If you'll be my Valentine...I'll be your...Whitey!

Love,

Carrie

Too funny!! It's been a few weeks since I checked in on your blog! I love reading it, although it makes me sad. Reminds me how much we miss you guys. But it is nice to "hear" your stories, you sound so happy! Stay that way, you wouldn't be you if you weren't! :)
