We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Jake and the Flying Turtle...literally

There was an after-school party/BBQ at Jake's school in conjunction with the book fair. Of course, there were the obligatory inflatable structures of fun, a DJ for the essential "Electric Slide" and the kids were invited to bring something on wheels. There were fast lanes and slow lanes set up for kids to ride around a track to wear themselves out. Jake could have brought his bike or his scooter, but in an effort to be an individual, Jake brought the "Flying Turtle".

In hindsight, I should have gone to the bottom and filmed him coming down. From this angle, the camera totally missed the sweet curb-jump and roll at the bottom of the hill. Oh well, you get the idea. Jake wanted to do it again, but I didn't know if the result would be as favorable...so I opted to deny.

I wonder if Jake, when making his decision, had this hill in mind all along?
