We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Oura Wan Beach

Do you ever look through your photo files and find something you can't believe you didn't blog about? I do it all the time...take, for instance...our trip to Disneyland last year. I only blogged the Star Wars pics...nothing else. That was kind of an oversight. I really meant to get back to it. Is there a statute of limitations on blogging...or will I have to wait and let an event age a bit until it can be considered a Friday Flashback?

Anyway, I wanted to be sure to share these pics and this day with you. It actually was an accidental outing that took place back in January. It was a Sunday afternoon, and we were tagging along with Cliff as he made the drive up the expressway to Camp Schwab, where he was going to be attending his 3 week, pre-deployment training beginning the next day. He just wanted to get the lay of the land, see how long it took him to get there, how much it cost in tolls ($12 round trip...sheesh!)

Since we were up there, we decided to find the beach cottages because we've heard they are great. This beach was just too beautiful to pass up, so we got out and walked around. It is covered in white coral and there were fun rocks for climbing.

Naturally, I'm still in my church clothes. I usually wear my church clothes all Sunday...not because I think it's extra-righteous or anything...I just am usually too lazy to change...and I'm the one that does the laundry, so I'm usually not eager to wear more than one outfit a day, if possible.

This is what it looks like if you try to kiss and laugh at the same time. Not pretty.

Coree was whining about her feet at one point, so her brothers tried to come to her rescue (read: shut her up).

Just had to share some of the sites we saw as we drove. I will never get tired of this landscape. I still can't believe I'm here sometimes!

Backseat shot. Of course, there are weapons involved. One of Jake's many knives (he is, after all, a Cub Scout!) and one of Patrick's many Lego weapon creations.

This cage tunnel kind of caught us by surprise. We were taking a different route home. This is on the back side of Awase Meadows golf course right by our house. It's the course where I take my lessons. We will actually only have it until the end of the year and then it's being given back to the Okinawans. Anyway, I thought it was very clever protection from stray golf balls.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Love the cabins up there! You actually feel like you are on vacation! Ya gotta book way ahead of time unless you just happen to catch a fluke and one is available! Was just up there today doing the open ocean swim in 67 degree water and sea condition Red! LOL!

I promise you will spend the rest of your life trying to get to the ocean.

I don't see us leaving Texas anytime soon, but call of the sea is never, never going away for me. I spent every minute of our last trip to Florida trying to figure out how we could afford the $2.5 million to buy the condo we rented.....

Ha. I just stumbled on this because I'm going to try to get in the cabins in April if I'm not too late. Look at how YOUNG your kids look!!!! How did that happen? It just does not seem like that much time has gone by!
