We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Almost forgot MY birthday!

For the weekend of my birthday, we took the family here...

Kitakaisen. It's a great place...very popular with Americans, because it is more...Americanish, even though it's a Japanese restaurant and you still sit on the floor.

Here's some of the scenery:

Are you drooling yet? I am. And hey...it's Saturday. I'm required by Stuart law to take my kids someplace new tonight. I know what I'm lobbying for!

But then my birthday actually fell on a Tuesday...so Cliff invited the Kretschmer's (unbeknownst to me) to go to Macaroni Grill. It was totally yummy. I got the same thing I always order, though...a seared sea-scallop salad. I love it so much, I'm always afraid to order something else because I might not like it as much and I will know that I could have had this!

We haven't aged a bit, have we?

Of course, they surprised me with cake and song...

And this sweet little February Kokeshi doll. My very first one!

It was a great birthday!

That stuff looks a little exotic to me. Don't they have any In-n-Out type joints over there?? haha! Glad you had a happy day ;)

I love how adventurous your kids are about eating.
