We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Anatomy of Valentines Day

It starts with chocolate chip scones...

Followed by the traditional Godiva truffle exchange. (Not actually planned...but do we know each other or what?)

Then Cliff broke the "don't spend too much money on flowers which are going to die" rule. But I still love him. {They are beautiful.}

I'd much rather spend a fraction of the money on beautiful shrimp, which will also just end up disappearing...because it's a much more delicious experience. {He is beautiful.}

That's what I'M talkin' about!

Sometimes He Still Surprises Me...

And sometimes, the universe conspires against him and he only TRIES to surprise me, but gets "owned."

This time, it was the florist calling for directions because our neighborhood is still too new for Mapquest or Google. (I told her to try Yahoo...they are up to date. It worked.)

Next, it was the credit card company fraud alert system, calling me with a recorded message to verify that the purchase was legitimate. (Which made me laugh REALLY hard...I guess it had to be
totally out of his normal buying pattern for him to merit this...should he take a hint?)

Anyway, Cliff definitely gets an "A" for effort on this one. I was really bummed out that he wasn't here for our anniversary (he was performing his friend Dave's memorial service that day) but he was so thoughtful to make sure that I knew he was thinking of me.

Aren't they gorgeous?

Seventeen Years...it seems like just yesterday...and it just keeps getting better!

These were the first ones...he totally had me by then, too...
This was just icing.
