We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Lights, Camera, Treasure Island

Finally, the night I have been waiting for arrived. We got to see Patrick's play, "Treasure Island".

We arrived early to get seats up front. To kill time, I decided to sneak backstage and get some pictures of Patrick.

This is it...where the magic happens.

We found Brandon, studying his lines one last time.

And here he is! To his right...is Sarah! Of Patrick's first date fame. Quite a difference, no?

Then we were shooed out by the director and found our seats. Here are Coree and Alicia eagerly awaiting Patrick's appearance.

I couldn't get a very good shot of Patrick because of the lighting, and the fact that they were moving so fast...so I just switched to video. I uploaded six clips of Patrick's parts. The first one has Patrick playing a different part (one who gets killed...SPOILER). But then he comes back in the second act as Ben Gunn for the rest of the clips.

Part one

I included some more photos of scenes Patrick wasn't in just so you could see the set.

They did such a great job.

There's Sarah in the middle...I still can't get over her rugged manliness.

Here's where Ben Gunn comes in. Again, the lighting and movement made still shots a challenge, but thought I'd still attempt a couple.

This one was the best that I got. The following clips are most of his scenes:

Part two

Part three

Part four

Part five

And finally, here's part six.

He was SO happy!

We are so thrilled he had this experience.

What a great group of kids.

Sarah jumped down and laid one on Alicia and Coree. They were honored.

Lots of peeps wanted to talk to Patrick afterward.

(and yes, while he did work on those abs extensively, and they looked pretty good...stage makeup was added for effect.)

What an animal!

I'm his biggest fan.

So, we knew that Patrick was a pretty good actor. We've seen him before (whether on stage in a San Diego Jr. Theater class...or in our living room while trying to convince us of his remorse). But let me tell you, this boy can ACT!

Well, Cliff says it's not acting. He says Patrick is always this crazy, so this was just "unleashing". Either way, I was VERY impressed with him...and very proud of all the work he put into this play. With two more years of high school drama left (and you never know about college or beyond) it will be fun to see where this takes him.

Congratulations, Patrick!
