We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Happy Boys' Day!

You can read all about Boys' Day (now more commonly called Children's Day ) here.

I still call it Boys' Day...because I don't think it's very fair to have a separate Girls' Day...but boys have to share their day.

Anyway, I drove by this display of carp flags and had to come back to get some photos.

I still go back and forth about getting our own set of boy flags. Maybe next year.

Anyway, since this was the third in a string of three holidays in a row that comprise Golden Week, mostly I spent the day being annoyed that I couldn't conduct some business that I needed to, since all the offices shut down for three freaking days in a row!

Other than that, I bought my boys some gimmicky Boys' Day treats and called it good. Oh, and I bought some for Coree, too. I figured it was only fair since she had to share her Girls' Day cake with them.

Happy Kodomo no Hi, everyone!
