We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

How We Celebrated Valentine's Day

This is how we celebrated Valentine's Day:

First, we went to church. (Sorry, no pics)

Then, some very nice friends dropped by, bearing treats...

Alicia brought candy...and Sarah? Sweet Sarah brought these delectable cookies:

Meanwhile, Jake and I made delicious hummus. It was SO divine. This time, I peeled each and every chick pea. Apparently, it's the way the Middle-Easterners do it. It's supposed to make it smoother and more flavorful. As I was pinching each pea, I was thinking, "They'd better be right...I'm so not going to be happy if I've spent all this time pinching chick peas for it to taste the same."

The results were SO worth it. I'm pinching peas from now on. Try it. You won't be sorry.

If anyone is interested, I'll post my recipe. (I would do it right now, just in case...but that would involve getting out of bed, and I'm all tucked in.)

Then, I had a brief nap (sorry, there's no pics).

Then, Coree and I made chicken soup with Udon noodles (yummy, Japanese noodles, as thick as my pinkie and as long as my arm) and homemade rolls to take to the family of this new little darling:

And is there any sweeter way to spend Valentine's Day than this?

I thought not.

I'd love to see your recipe! I've yet to make hummus, but if I can find tahini online, it is probably something I could do here.
