We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

III MEF Band Rocks!

Let me start by saying that this post has a boat load of video clips. You are not obligated to watch any of them...but I just didn't know what to leave out. This concert was SO much fun. They started out pretty formal and traditional:

(We go to church with the sax player second from the left. We actually go to church with 3 of the band members. Anyway, this guy also has an incredible voice and did a solo of "Oh Holy Night" that was as near to Michael Crawford's performance as I've heard. He was spectacular! I didn't get any video as I was completely mesmerized!)

And then there was intermission where we were encouraged to enjoy some baked good and cocoa out in front of the theater. They didn't tell us there was going to be a whole nother party goin' on outside, though! It was sweet!

Then we came back in after intermission to be entertained by a hilarious skit:

(FYI...that's Charlie the Unicorn and friends, for those of you who know them. I didn't have a clue, so I didn't even video tape that part of the skit. I've since been enlightened via YouTube and now really regret that I missed the opportunity to share the band's take on Charlie with you here!)

Then they came back out to play some more...not bothering to change out of their costumes in some cases. Too funny!

Here is "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" ala Bruce Springsteen in 3 parts:

Pretty good, no?

And my favorite "pop" Christmas song..."Do They Know it's Christmas?"
I was SO excited that they did this one!

And of course, the Hallelujah Chorus to wrap things up. What a fun night! We're already looking forward to next year!
