We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

All Hail King Troy!

The combined choirs of Kubasaki High put on a Madrigal Dinner each year under the direction of Coach Geist (Football coach/choir director).

He held auditions for the speaking parts...and our very own Troy was chosen as King! I think it was a combination of Troy's ability to project, his height...and the royal last name.

Of course, a King's gotta eat...as did the rest of us...

(Trivia...I was voluntold to bring a turkey. Not just any turkey, either...a 25 pounder. Cooked. And wanna know how I found out about it? Four days earlier, in the evening on the way home from piano lessons. It went something like this..."Oh mom, by the way...the coach said he wants *the people who were willing to sign up to bring stuff* to bring bigger stuff...so you're not bringing potatoes anymore...you're bringing a turkey. He said to make sure it's a big one." The thing was, I was voluntold to bring the potatoes in the first place...so this logic escaped me. I mean, I might be able to understand some last minute cookies...but an extra turkey in the middle of the holiday season? Seriously?! I told Troy that since it took 6 days to thaw a large turkey in the fridge, and since he withheld this little piece of info from me, he would get the honor of babysitting the thawing turkey in the bathtub. Like THAT happened! But I managed to squeeze it all in somehow and showed up with assigned turkey in tow.)

And then we headed to the auditorium for the show. Here's the coach doing a mic check.

The sheep getting into their hiding place.

These sheep were hilarious. They stole the show.

And Brandon was a great jester. He can seriously project, too.

Here's both of them in action:

Good looking group, huh?

What do you think...could you see him as King Troy?

"Let them eat cake..."

And here they are drinking...ah-hem...punch.

Should I be worried about the "party boys" stereotyping going on here?

At any rate...there's a little clip of the action.

The lovely ladies of the court.

Talk about stereotyping...Josh is not really such a black sheep!

I love this dramatic shot here.

They received a well deserved standing ovation.

A very Imperial performance!

Well done Troy. I can't believe you were unexpectedly asked, TOLD, to bring a turkey?! As if you don't have a million other things to do at this time of year. Did you really defrost it in the bathtub? I thought that only happened in comedy films?!

LOL, Gina...I actually found a bucket big enough to fit the turkey upright so I was able to thaw it in the kitchen sink. It didn't take as long as I had feared. We had as large of a bird for Thanksgiving last month and it still was not completely thawed after 6 days in the fridge!
