We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful and All That Jazz

Doesn't he look physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight? I mean...he even has the SOCKS, for Pete's sake. TOTALLY legit.

All four of our eleven year old Scouts wanted to attend Scout camp this year. Since none of their dad's could attend with them, they had to go as day campers. (You have to be 12 to go unaccompanied.) This meant the moms had to work out a carpool for getting them up to camp and back each day. Between the four of us moms, we managed nicely.

Here they are heading down to camp, just in time as the regular campers are preparing for the morning flag ceremony. I stayed to watch that, chat with a couple of leaders and then I had to head back home.

It was a beautiful day. Sunny with a light breeze. I wish I could have taken a picture that would have better captured this river for you. It was lovely:

But, I had to keep moving so this was as good as it gets.

But here's some consolation uniformed school girls. Evidently there were lots of schools in this area. I saw so many uniform combos going in all different directions. These sailor getups are still my fave, though.
