Yesterday, some friends and I did a wedding open house for this sweet couple from church. I love doing food for receptions and showers, so it was no trouble...except that when I'm cooking on a grand scale, I don't remember to eat. I am so consumed with the creative process.
About an hour into the reception, this became a problem. I looked around the table, and really the only things that did not have meat or dairy were the fruit and veggie trays. I had a good helping of those, but they just did not satisfy.
After a while, I convinced myself that it would not hurt to eat some of the cucumber sandwiches I made. How much would a little cream cheese hurt? Well, 1 led to 2, which led to 6. I felt fine at first, but by morning the effects were obvious to me...sore throat, ear ache, sinus congestion, just general misery.
I am now convinced more than ever that milk protein is just not good for me. I've had a couple of doctors over the years suggest that maybe a milk allergy was contributing to my ENT problems...and had even tried (short lived) breaks from dairy, but it was just too hard for me as a teen. Now I am determined to lead a dairy free life. I hope I'm right (it would sure be nice to have some answers) but at the same time, don't look forward to ice cream being the source of my problems.
