We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Christmas with McDonald's

I know I've mentioned before that the Japanese LOVE Christmas. At least the decorating and shopping parts of it. Japan is really not a Christian country (although there are Japanese Christians). For the most part, it is about Santa, decorations and candy...and they REALLY get into it here. And what would an already overly-commercialized holiday be without McDonald's?

I didn't like McDonald's in the US, and I like it considerably less here. In the US, you can at least count on being able to order chicken, and it will be all white meat (or at least compressed to the point that it removes anything which might trigger a texture issue). Here, you order the chicken and it's mostly dark meat and skin. Eww! Anyway, I was just in search of a fountain drink...but I saw this on the picture menu and my heart started to race, as it does when I see gimmicky, Japanese stuff.

I couldn't tell what was inside just by looking at the picture...but I decided to take a gamble. I figured I could get my kids to eat whatever I didn't want.

This is the view when I cracked it open. There's cute, Japanese flotsam inside!

I LOVE Christmas ornaments! What would Christmas be without a Shaka Shaka Chicken ornament?

Here's the entire contents of the box. It was about $20 and gave us each our choice of chicken entree, fries to share...and bonus ornaments!

Everybody sing..."Deck the Halls with greasy chicken..."
