We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Christmas Piano Recital 2010

It's that time again...the semi-annual piano recital! Once again, I didn't take any video...but it's because it's such close quarters, and the beeps of my camera would (a) annoy those around me and (b) make the kids nervous. I promise, I will have the kids play something soon to post here, just so the grandparents can see.

Jake introducing his pieces. He did "Carol of the Bells" and "The Christmas Song" and rocked the house. In a reverent, Christmas way, of course.

Coree's jacket got stuck on the sequins of her dress, and when she started to take it off, the dress started to slide off of her shoulder, too. Right in front of everyone. That is why she is playing in a nice, Christmas dress...covered by a hoodie. Her playing was much more spectacular than her wardrobe malfunction, though.

Troy did a great job, surprisingly...because I didn't think he'd practiced as much as he should have. He is really only doing this in exchange for room and board to make me happy. I still have fantasies of him writing me from his mission to say, "You were SO right, Mom...thank you for making me take piano...they really needed my skills here and I'm so glad that I could be a blessing to these people."

And here's Patrick, who can never merely tell you what he's playing. It's always open mic night with him. He did a great job, too.

And the traditional pic with the teacher. We love Sister M!
