We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Sweet Okinawan rides

I don't know about you, but before I got here, I fully expected that the cars over here (being Japanese cars in....Japan, after all) would have Japanese names. Apparently, the Japanese prefer American names...sort of. I use the word names loosely, really.

OK...so this is a real name. I have a cousin with this name. The "nette" names seem to be big in my family, actually...Vanette, Nanette, Janette.

This is sort of a name...but one you have to think to pronounce carefully before you speak. Trust me, I know...this is what we drove until it died one month into Cliff's deployment!

OK...this is just laziness, if you ask me. "I don't know, what do you want to name it?" "We want this vehicle to appeal to everyone. I know...we'll just call it Everything, Plus...that's all encompassing enough..."
How creative!

Now how cool are you if you are driving around the Homy?

OK, so this doesn't really have anything to do with a car name at all...but it's hilarious.

Sort of a name...but it's a verb, really. "What does a truck do? It carries things. There you have it...We'll call it the Carry!"

This one is aptly named. These are popular, and they do look like some sort of space mobile.

Another popular model. OK, who came up with this?! Honestly? What's next, The Flasher? The Exhibitionist?

Again, not really a name, but a pretty sweet ride! There are all kinds of modified vehicles around here, too. This reminded me of a cross between the Mystery Machine and a Transformer.

OK...and these designers obviously fell asleep at the drawing board, woke up right before the big meeting, and just went with what they had written down. "That's......all"

The first time I saw this, I thought it said, "Scizum," which I think actually sounds better than Scrum. Honestly, who wants to drive something that sounds like that?

This is just plain silliness! Imagine yourself telling your friends:

"We went out and bought a new car last night."

"Oh, that's great...what did you end up getting?"

"We went with that new Bongo Friendee."

I'm sorry, just saying it makes you sound like a Gomer.

(You'll probably have to enlarge this one to see it)

This is my personal fave. I think the Chaplains should all be issued a "Lordly".

What do you think?

Carrie,

You really are the best. I always laugh so hard when I read your blog!!

Today I had to call the kids over to see the Mystery Machine/Transformer, they want one.

I want a Lordly, it should be standard issue!! :)

I hope you're saving up for a Nissan Vanette van-slash-truck-slash-popemobile-slash-golf cart for Coree's 16th!

These are hilarious....
