We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Shangri-La

Some people have asked to see pics of our house...I promise that once we get settled, I will post some more. I have something in mind, so bear with me. This is the front of our house. I'm standing in my neighbor's front yard (their house faces the street...ours is sideways...not sure why).

Believe me, it's nothing special...but it is kind of interesting...sociologically, I suppose.

Here's a little taste, though. This was Sunday...Coree and I were making lasagna in our "one-butt" kitchen that Plaza housing is famous for! This house does have more storage than most around here, and the bedrooms are good sized...but the living room/dining room arrangement is kind of awkward, and the kitchen is ridiculous. But again, I cooked in a 27 foot travel trailer for 6 months. I can do anything!

Oh my word, that kitchen looks unbelievable! ha! That's grounds for dinner out at least 5 times a week. LOL How many bedrooms do you have?

We have 4 bedrooms, and they are decent sized...not like those in our last house...they were huge...but these are acceptable.

And I will let Cliff know what you said about dinner out...I like that idea!

Yeah, when Cliff said Plaza i said nice place but tiny tiny kitchen! I love the "eat out more often" now!!! Plenty of places to choose from! You couldn't possibly hit them all in just one tour! Ha!

Carrie I love reading about your adventures there in Japan. I would love to visit you there! Thanks for commenting on my blog too. I don't comment too often and am busy like a chicken with her head cut off, not remembering or realizing what all I need to do in one day... Anyhow, you know from growing up in Hawaii, we had a lot of Japanese influence, Japanese friends and some of their culture with food and words and such. My James may be taking my two oldest to Japan for their Senior trip and flying Space A. I don't think it's my turn to go but my thoughts will be there with them and with you. Anyway, I TOTALLY love all your posts and laugh with the signs and translations and sympathize with the small kitchen and all that. You have a great attitude about it all! Well my friend across the world-Love you tons!

Oh how fun! I actually had a huge kitchen on Lester. We had the youth in there doing 3 different pizzas! But no bathroom on the main level! It was crazy especially during pregancy.I had to plan 10 mintues ahead of time to get up stairs! But I know Plaza has it's perks! We'll I had taken more pics like you are doing, THANKS FOR SHARING!

Hi Taryn! Lester's kitchens are huge! We were actually offered a unit there, or this one. It was hard to pass up that kitchen, but ultimately what broke the tie was the lack of a bathroom downstairs in Lester, and the ability to control our own thermostat here in Plaza. That and the Seminary carpool opportunities in Plaza...that has been really nice. Great to hear from you!
