We are the Stuarts (formerly of Imperial) now residing in Okinawa, Japan.

This blog started from a desire to bridge the miles as we were preparing to leave the USA for 3+ years. It has turned into much more. It's part travel diary, part personal reflection, part "sociology of military life" and part mommy-blog. We hope you read something here that is interesting to you (or at least not a total waste of your time).

Flashback Friday...Desperate Times...

Dateline 2006...

This "Mother of the Year" moment brought to you by...

IKEA!

I think this was Jake's stuff...a closet organizer and a desk and shelf set...

This was right after we got into our new house...and we were in San Diego for the day for our home school co-op. It's a LONG, expensive drive...so I needed to maximize my effort and resources, right? I had planned to stop at IKEA and pick these things up (we had even removed the middle seats), but I didn't calculate just how much room they would take.

Right in line with my ability to squeeze one more bowl into the dishwasher...I came up with a configuration that worked to get us all home...just not as comfortably as the kids might have hoped. Slouching for 2 hours never killed anyone, right?

Luckily, I didn't get pulled over on the ride home. (Thank heaven for tinted windows!)
