The kids beg to decorate our Okinawa pad in Early Love Sac
Friday morning we headed to the Westgate Mall to buy church shoes for two kids who were in desperate need...and just looked around to see what was of good report.
Then we went to go see my brother Jimmy, his wife Shellie, and their kids Thomas, Baylee and Alden. It was so great to see them…but a challenge to stay positive knowing we’d be saying goodbye before we knew it. We tried to soak in every happy moment. Baylee looked great. She is doing so well. She giggles all the time and is so positive about things. She was a little upset about losing her hair, but told her mom she’d feel better about losing it if it was short, so she and Shellie both went to get their hair cut short the day she started radiation treatment. Now she’s started chemotherapy, too, and will have to do both daily for 5 weeks. Her doctors are amazed that she is still getting around and in such good spirits. Because of where the tumor is, she shouldn’t even be able to walk, but she is getting around very well.
Friday evening, Cliff and I attended the opening banquet of Chaplains’ Conference.
This banquet is my favorite part…lots of hugs and laughter. This year, my friend and fellow blogger, Felila (fah-LEE-lah) did us the honor of sitting at our Navy table. Her husband, James (an Army Chaplain), is on a WAY too long deployment to Afghanistan. We were SO glad that she came to the conference, anyway.
SO many Navy wives came this year! This is unusual…I think Jen Whitaker and I are the only Navy wives that come every year…but this year was different. After my excited reaction that Chaplain Vance had brought his wife, I said, “It’s not that I don’t care about you…it’s just that I care about your wife more!” (Someday my brutal honesty is going to get me into trouble!)
