We got a little surprise via Facebook today. A friend posted this link on my wall.
While we knew a story was in the works, we had been told we'd have an advance copy to read before it was published, so this came as a surprise.
A little background: I received an email back in February or March from a reporter with the Church News. Attached was a copy of an email they had received, tipping them off to Cliff's "conversion to chaplaincy" story. It also included a link to my blog. It didn't take me long (like two sentences) to figure out it was my dad who wrote the email, hehe.
Anyway, they were very interested in doing a story if we wanted to cooperate. We tossed it around a bit, told her we'd think about it, and a few weeks later, told her we'd do it. It took her several more weeks to get back to us (we were thinking maybe she figured out we weren't that exciting after all) because of all the post-General Conference news. She included a list of questions...which we promptly sat on for several months. It was harder than I thought it would be. Cliff and I both took turns answering, we finally sent it to her, and waited. She was super-excited about what we gave her to work with, but then we didn't hear anything...until Rebekah's post on my wall (it's good to have friends in Utah).
The whole experience felt a little...I don't know...like showing up to school in your underwear. I don't know why I felt so...exposed. After all, don't I bare my soul here all the time? But just knowing that "our story" was going to be involuntarily forced upon hundreds or thousands of unsuspecting people just felt...weird. It was also weird to read information which I didn't provide (including pictures) that she gleaned from the blog. Not that I mind at all...it was cool, actually.
I hope you enjoy the story. Reading it has caused me to reflect on where we started almost 20 years ago...and where we are today. God is great, Cliff Stuart is an amazing man...and marrying him was the best thing I ever did.
*Sep. 16th update. Deseret News republished a condensed version of the story today. Not sure whether it was also printed, or just the website. Any Utah peeps know? Anyone?
